Paradise and hell

“And Allah invites to the Home of Peace and guides whom He wills to a straight path[Al-Quran 10: 25]

It means a Home where absolute and eternal peace reigns, a home that has neither pain and sorrow, nor the danger of disease, nor the concern of adverse change or sudden extinction. ‘Daru ‘s-Salam’ means the Jannah or Paradise. One reason why it has been called ‘Daru ‘s-Salam’ is that everyone will have ideal peace and security there.

The most important blessing mentioned is the approval of Allah Almighty – something one cannot easily conceptualize – after which there is no danger of displeasure from Allah. According to a hadees, when the people of Paradise would have settled down there, happy and content without having any desire remaining unfulfilled, Allah Almighty will speak to them asking if they are happy and if they need anything. They will say: Our Lord, You have given us everything, what else could we ever need. Allah Almighty would say: Now I give you the greatest of all blessings – you all have My approval that I will never be displeased with you, and nearness forever. Since the danger of Allah’s displeasure does not exist in Paradise and there is also no danger that the blessings of Paradise will ever be taken back or reduced.

“And the Horn will be blown, and whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth will fall dead except whom Allah wills. Then it will be blown again, and at once they will be standing, looking on. And the earth will shine with the light of its Lord, and the record [of deeds] will be placed, and the prophets and the witnesses will be brought, and it will be judged between them in truth, and they will not be wronged. And every soul will be fully compensated [for] what it did; and He is most knowing of what they do.” [Al-Quran 39:68-70]

“And those who disbelieved will be driven to Hell in groups until, when they reach it, its gates are opened and its keepers will say, “Did there not come to you messengers from yourselves, reciting to you the verses of your Lord and warning you of the meeting of this Day of yours?” They will say, “Yes, but the word of punishment has come into effect upon the disbelievers. [To them] it will be said, “Enter the gates of Hell to abide eternally therein, and wretched is the residence of the arrogant.”” [Al-Quran 39:71-72]

“But those who feared their Lord will be driven to Paradise in groups until, when they reach it while its gates have been opened and its keepers say, “Peace be upon you; you have become pure; so enter it to abide eternally therein,” [they will enter].” [Al-Quran 39:73]

“And for those who disbelieved in their Lord is the punishment of Hell, and wretched is the destination. When they are thrown into it, they hear from it a [dreadful] inhaling while it boils up. It almost bursts with rage. Every time a company is thrown into it, its keepers ask them, “Did there not come to you a warner?” They will say,” Yes, a warner had come to us, but we denied and said, ‘ Allah has not sent down anything. You are not but in great error.’ ” And they will say, “If only we had been listening or reasoning, we would not be among the companions of the Blaze.” And they will admit their sin, so [it is] alienation for the companions of the Blaze.” [Al-Quran 67:6-11]

“And Paradise will be brought near to the righteous, not far, [It will be said], “This is what you were promised – for every returner [to Allah ] and keeper [of His covenant] Who feared the Most Merciful unseen and came with a heart returning [in repentance]. Enter it in peace. This is the Day of Eternity.” They will have whatever they wish therein, and with Us is more.” [Al-Quran 50:31-35]

“And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, And it will be said to them, “Where are those you used to worship Other than Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?” So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators.” [Al-Quran 26:91-94]

“Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds – they will have the Gardens of Paradise as a lodging, Wherein they abide eternally. They will not desire from it any transfer.” [Al-Quran 18:107-108]

“They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin – Only a saying: “Peace, peace.” [Al-Quran 56:25-26]

“But when there comes the greatest Overwhelming Calamity – The Day when man will remember that for which he strove, And Hellfire will be exposed for [all] those who see – So as for he who transgressed And preferred the life of the world, Then indeed, Hellfire will be [his] refuge.” [Al-Quran 79:34-39]

“But as for he who feared the position of his Lord and prevented the soul from [unlawful] inclination, Then indeed, Paradise will be [his] refuge.” [Al-Quran 79:40-41]

“Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait. For the transgressors, a place of return, In which they will remain for ages [unending]. They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink. Except scalding water and [foul] purulence – An appropriate recompense. Indeed, they were not expecting an account and denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. But all things We have enumerated in writing. “So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment.”” [Al-Quran 78:21-30]
